About Catocala residua Grote, 1874

Catocala residua, commonly known as the residua underwing, is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. This species was first formally described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1874. It is distributed in North America, with a range extending from southern Ontario, Quebec, and Maine in the north, south to North Carolina and Georgia, west to Mississippi and Missouri, and north again to Iowa, Illinois, and Michigan. The wingspan of adult Catocala residua measures between 60 and 73 mm. Adults are active in flight from July to September, with the exact timing varying by location. The larvae of this moth feed on four species of the Carya genus: Carya glabra, Carya illinoinensis, Carya laciniosa, and Carya ovata.
