About Catocala lineella Grote, 1872
Catocala lineella, commonly known as the lineella underwing, little lined underwing, or steely underwing, is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. It was first formally described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1872. This species is distributed across North America, ranging from Ontario and Quebec in the north, south to Florida, west to Texas, and north again to Ohio. For a long period, it was classified as a subspecies of Catocala amica, or even treated as a junior synonym of that species. The wingspan of adult Catocala lineella measures 35 to 40 millimeters. Adults are active in flight from July to August each year. The larvae of this moth feed on the leaves of plants in the Quercus (oak) genus.
