About Catocala irene Behr, 1870
Catocala irene, commonly called Irene's underwing, is a moth species in the family Erebidae. It was first formally described by Hans Hermann Behr in 1870. This moth is found in the western United States, specifically in Utah, California, and Nevada. Its wingspan measures between 65 and 75 mm. Adult moths are active on the wing from July through September, with the exact timing varying by location. It is thought that this species produces only one generation per year. The larvae of Catocala irene feed on plant species from the Populus and Salix genera.
