About Catocala illecta Walker

Catocala illecta, commonly known as the Magdalen underwing, is a species of moth in the family Erebidae. It was first described by Francis Walker in 1858. This moth is found in North America, with a range extending from southwestern Ontario south to Tennessee and South Carolina, and west and south to Texas; the range also extends north from Oklahoma and Kansas through Nebraska, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. The wingspan of adult Catocala illecta measures 60 to 70 mm. Adults are active on wing from May to July, with the timing varying by location. There is likely one generation of this moth produced per year. The larvae of Catocala illecta feed on Amorpha canescens, Gleditsia triacanthos, and Robinia pseudoacacia.
