Catocala cerogama Guenée, 1852 has a wingspan ranging from 64 to 81 mm. Its hindwings bear even, deep yellow bands, while its forewings are typically brownish gray. A pale band connects the whitish subreniform spot to the costa. This species is distributed from Nova Scotia in the north south to North Carolina, and west to Manitoba, South Dakota, and Missouri. Adult Catocala cerogama fly between July and October.
