Catocala californica is a moth species that belongs to the family Erebidae. It was first formally described by William Henry Edwards in 1864. This species is found in western North America, ranging from British Columbia and Alberta in the north, south through Washington and Oregon to California. The wingspan of adults measures approximately 65 mm. Depending on the location, adult moths are active on the wing between June and August. The larvae of this species feed on Juglans nigra and various species of Salix.
