This species is distributed across North America, ranging from Pennsylvania southward to Florida, westward to Texas, and northward to Missouri, Wisconsin, and Illinois. The wingspan of adult Catocala alabamae measures 20 to 40 mm. Adult moths are in flight from April to August, with the timing varying based on their location. This species likely produces only one generation per year. The larvae of Catocala alabamae feed on Crataegus, Crataegus calpodendron, Malus coronaria, and Prunus angustifolia.
