About Catarhoe basochesiata (Duponchel, 1831)

Catarhoe basochesiata is a moth species belonging to the family Geometridae. It is found across Europe, and more specifically occurs through the western Mediterranean region, ranging from the Iberian Peninsula through France into Italy, and from Morocco to Tunisia. It was first described in 1831 by Philogène Duponchel, under the original name Cidaria basochesiata. This moth has a wingspan of 23 to 27 millimeters, equal to 0.91 to 1.06 inches. Its forewings vary in base color from reddish brown to greyish brown; some individuals have very dark brown forewings, where the wing patterns show poor contrast against the dark base color. The species prefers hot, dry habitats in low coastal areas, generally occurring from 0 to 500 meters (0 to 1,640 feet) above sea level, and can occasionally be found at higher elevations.
