About Catapaecilma major (Druce, 1895)
This text discusses two female Bornean specimens originally treated as Catapaecilma elegans. The author notes that these specimens differ from specimens from Sikkim, Ceylon, and Sumatra: on the underside of the fore wing, the central band is straight, rather than Y-shaped, which is the consistent form seen in all Indian specimens, as well as the Ceylon and Sumatran examples. Because the author only has this small amount of material, they do not currently recognize the Indian populations as a separate distinct species, while acknowledging they are not the typical form. However, the author suggests the name major for these populations should they later be recognized as a distinct species. The scientific name of this taxon is Catapaecilma major (Druce, 1895). Its larvae feed on Terminalia paniculata.
