Catabrosa aquatica (L.) P.Beauv. is a widespread semi-aquatic grass species belonging to the genus Catabrosa. It has several common names: brookgrass, water whorl-grass, water whirlgrass, and water hairgrass. This species is native to most of the non-tropical Northern Hemisphere, as well as southern Chile and Argentina. As indicated by both its scientific name and common names, it prefers to grow in wet areas, including meadows, stream banks, and lake shores.
