Castilleja latifolia Hook. & Arn. is a perennial wildflower herb. It grows up to around 60 centimeters tall, and develops a shrublike spreading form as it ages over time. The whole plant is bristly and hairy, and its herbage can be green, gray-green, purple, or purple-tinted. Its fleshy leaves are rounded or oval in shape, and grow up to 2 centimeters long. Its inflorescence is composed of layers of greenish bracts, with tips colored from dull to very bright shades of red, orange, or yellow. The flowers that emerge between the bracts often have similar coloration to the bract tips. The fruit produced by this plant is a capsule that reaches up to 2 centimeters in length.
