About Castilleja kraliana J.R.Allison
Castilleja kraliana J.R.Allison has a fibrous root system, growing from solitary erect green stems that are covered in fine hairs and bear short-stalked glands. Stems may branch starting from the mid-stem region. Basal leaves are often purple, shaped like oblanceolate blades, unlobed, and have flat margins. Cauline leaves range from linear to linear-lanceolate, and have 3 to 5 lobes. Each flower is anchored at its base by a large green bract, and is bright yellow near its apex. Each flower has four sepals that form a yellow tube at the tip, and are white or light green at the base. The corolla is made up of five yellow-green petals that form a tube. The fruit is a capsule that holds many small seeds. This species is endemic to Ketona Dolomite outcrops located in Bibb County, Alabama.
