About Castilleja attenuata (A.Gray) T.I.Chuang & Heckard
Castilleja attenuata is an annual herb that can reach roughly 50 centimeters in height. Its leaves are linear in shape and measure several centimeters in length. The inflorescence bears three-lobed bracts that have yellow or white tips. Fuzzy white flowers marked with purple and yellow dots emerge from between the bracts. This species blooms from March through May. It has been recorded growing at elevations ranging from 0 to 2010 meters (equivalent to 0 to 6595 feet). The annual precipitation in areas where this plant grows falls between 28 and 175 centimeters, or 11 and 69 inches. Its growing season lasts between two and nine months. This species acts as a host plant for two butterfly species: the Leanira Checkerspot (Chlosyne leanira) and the Chalcedon Checkerspot (Euphydryas chalcedona).
