Castilleja affinis Hook. & Arn. is a perennial herb that produces an erect stem reaching a maximum height of around 60 centimeters (24 inches). The plant ranges in color from greenish to purple, and its texture can vary from hairless to quite hairy. Its leaves are variable in shape and grow up to 8 centimeters long. The inflorescence consists of a series of bracts that come in shades ranging from bright red to yellowish. The flowers that grow between the bracts are slightly longer than the bracts, covered in hairs, and are green to purple with red or yellow striping. The fruit this plant produces is a capsule just over one centimeter long.
