About Cassia leptophylla Vogel

Cassia leptophylla Vogel is a tropical tree species in the genus Cassia, native to Brazil. It is commonly called the gold medallion tree. This species produces yellow flowers that bloom intermittently across the year, after which it forms seedpods that rattle when shaken. It can be identified by its thin green foliage, made up of glossy green pinnate leaflets. Its fruit is a long, thin four-sided seedpod that is rectangular in cross-section. Cassia leptophylla is native specifically to southeastern Brazil. The tree has few uses, being mainly grown as an ornamental decorative tree, and also used as a laxative—a property common to plants in the genus Cassia.
