About Cassia abbreviata Oliv.

Cassia abbreviata Oliv., commonly known as sjambok pod or long-tail cassia, is a mostly tropical tree species in the genus Cassia that is native to Africa. Its native range spans east, northeast, south, and west-central Africa. It has been recorded growing in Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Somalia, South Africa (specifically in the Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces), Eswatini, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Proguibourtinidins, a class of condensed tannins, occur in Cassia abbreviata, and guibourtinidol, a flavan-3ol, is found in its heartwood. This species is recognized as an important medicinal plant in Botswana, where it is known by the local name monepenepe.
