About Carpodacus roseus (Pallas, 1776)

Pallas's rosefinch (scientific name Carpodacus roseus (Pallas, 1776)) measures approximately 16 to 17.5 centimeters in length. It is a medium-sized to large, slender rosefinch with a long, notched tail. Like many other finch species, it has a short grayish bill that is most often used to eat seeds. Adult males have rose-red heads and breasts, with white spots on the crown and throat. Females are mostly brown overall, with a white belly, streaked breast, and reddish-brown head. Both males and females have pale wingbars. This species is found across Central and Southeastern Russia, Mongolia, and China, and occupies Japan during the non-breeding season. It rarely travels to Europe or the Americas, though recorded sightings and occurrences have been noted in these regions.
