About Carminatia tenuiflora DC.
Carminatia tenuiflora DC. is an annual plant species with erect stems that are either unbranched or have only a few branches. Individuals of this species grow between 10 centimeters (4 inches) and over 100 centimeters (40 inches) tall. Most of its leaves are arranged oppositely along the stem, while leaves located on the upper portion of the stem may be arranged alternately. Its cylindrical flower heads are a few millimeters wide, and they are arranged in narrow, spikelike inflorescences. Each flower head holds 8 to 12 greenish or whitish disc florets. The fruit produced by this species is a cypsela, topped with a pappus made of plumelike bristles or scales. This species is distributed in Guatemala, El Salvador, most of Mexico, and the United States, where it occurs in southern Arizona, southwestern New Mexico, and western Texas.
