About Caribena laeta (C.L.Koch, 1842)

Female Caribena laeta have a lifespan of 10 to 12 years, while males live only 3 to 4 years. Males have a light brown carapace that appears almost pale gold, and a pale brown opisthosoma with a darker urticating patch near the spinnerets. Their legs are light brown, with darker brown coloring closer to the base, and distinct metallic blue or green coloring near the tip of the legs, which is easily visible when the spider holds a threat pose. Females share much the same general coloration as males, but their overall color is darker, and their urticating patch is lighter, which is the reverse of the darker patch seen in males. Confirmed records of this tarantula come from Corozal, Puerto Rico, where it is found. The climate in this area is tropical, with an average annual rainfall of 1,700 (units not specified) and an average temperature of 26°C.
