About Carex vulpina L.
Carex vulpina L. can be identified by its reddish-brown inflorescence, which appears in June and July. It has sturdy, triangular stems that are winged in cross-section, paired with bright green, flat leaves. This species can grow up to 0.95 meters tall, and is often confused with its close relative Carex otrubae, commonly known as False Fox-sedge. Its distribution ranges from widespread across Europe to Xinjiang. It prefers lowland wetland habitats, including river banks, ditches, and seasonally flooded meadows. While it is not considered a species of global conservation concern, it is classified as vulnerable in the United Kingdom.
