About Carex umbrosa Host

Description: Carex umbrosa Host is a perennial grass-like plant that forms tussocks and grows from rhizomes. It reaches approximately 15 cm in overall height. Its leaves have flat blades, are green in color, and grow between 15 and 20 cm long. It produces a brown spike-shaped inflorescence and flowers in early summer.

Distribution and habitat: This species occurs across Europe, extending east to the Caucasus, and also grows from Mongolia to the Russian Far East and Korea. As its scientific name umbrosa suggests, it favors shady conditions. It is most commonly found growing in moist, acidic clay soil in forested areas.
