About Carex tuckermanii Boott
Carex tuckermanii Boott is a tussock-forming species of sedge that can reach up to 48 inches in height. Its leaves grow at the base of the plant and are arranged alternately along the stem, and they are typically longer than the stem itself. The lower basal portion of the stem is covered in sheaths, which are usually purplish in color. This species produces separate staminate (male) and pistillate (female) spikes; pistillate spikes develop clusters of achenes from late spring through summer. In terms of distribution and habitat, Carex tuckermanii grows primarily in wetland habitats, including lake edges, swamps, and marshes.
