About Carex swanii (Fernald) Mack.

Carex swanii, commonly called Swan's sedge or downy green sedge, is a species of flowering plant that belongs to the family Cyperaceae. This species is native to eastern North America. It was first formally described in 1906 as Carex virescens var. swanii by Fernald, before being elevated to full species status by Mackenzie in 1910. The species is named in honor of Charles Walter Swan (1838-1921), who was a naval surgeon and an early member of the New England Botanical Club.
