About Carex spectabilis Dewey
This species of sedge, known scientifically as Carex spectabilis Dewey, produces clusters of stems that reach a maximum height between 50 and 90 centimeters. It sometimes grows from rhizomes. Its inflorescence is a cluster of flowers that ranges from erect to heavily nodding, and these clusters are covered in dark purplish scales. The fruit of the plant is coated in a perigynium that can range in color from pale yellowish to dark purple to black. This sedge is native to northwestern North America, ranging from Alaska through the Northwestern United States, and is also found in California and Utah. It grows in moist mountain habitats within subalpine to alpine climates.
