About Carex raynoldsii Dewey

Description: Carex raynoldsii is a species of sedge that grows in clumps. It produces smooth stems that reach a maximum height of about 75 centimeters, growing from a network of rhizomes. Its inflorescence is made up of a cluster of separate rounded or oval flower spikes. Each spike is one to two centimeters long, and most spikes hang from a peduncle. The female flower is covered by a scale that can be black, brown, or purple, and this scale often has a raised, light-colored stripe running down its center. After flowering, this sedge produces rounded fruit.
