About Carex platyphylla J.Carey
Carex platyphylla J.Carey, commonly known as broad leaf sedge and silver sedge, is a flowering plant species in the genus Carex. It is native to southeast Canada, as well as north-central and eastern United States. It is frequently found in the same forests as Carex plantaginea, another broad-leaved Carex species. The two species do not compete with each other, because Carex plantaginea prefers wet habitats, while Carex platyphylla prefers dry habitats. Silver sedge is considered a useful native ornamental plant. It is showy, deer-resistant, and once established, it can tolerate both deep shade and drought.
