About Carex pellita Muhl. ex Willd.
Carex pellita Muhl. ex Willd. is a species of sedge that grows in both wet and dry areas across multiple habitat types, including disturbed areas like ditches and roadsides. This sedge forms colonies made up of clumps of stems, growing from a network of spreading rhizomes. Individual stems reach 30 centimeters to 1 meter in height. Its inflorescence is a cylindrical structure of overlapping flowers that can be up to 30 centimeters long. Female flowers have dark brown or purplish, hairy scales with long tips. The fruit is covered by a fuzzy to woolly perigynium. This sedge is native to most of North America, ranging through southern Canada, the United States, and northeastern Mexico.
