About Carex pansa L.H.Bailey
Carex pansa, a species of sedge, is commonly known as sand dune sedge. It is native to the coast of western North America, ranging from British Columbia to California, where it grows in sand dunes and other sandy habitats. This grass-like sedge grows from a network of thin, long, coarse rhizomes, and produces sharply triangular stems that reach up to approximately 40 centimeters in height. Its inflorescence is a cluster of several spikes bearing dark brownish flowers. An individual plant will sometimes produce only male or only female flowers in its inflorescences, rather than bearing both sexes. This sedge is sometimes used as a substitute for grass in local landscaping projects.
