About Carex pachystachya Cham. ex Steud.

Carex pachystachya Cham. ex Steud. forms dense clumps of erect stems that reach a maximum height of 1.2 metres, or 3.9 feet. Its inflorescence is a dense or open cluster made up of several flower spikes. Pistillate flowers of this species are covered by reddish or brown bracts. The fruit is wrapped in a sac-like structure called a perigynium, which is brown or coppery in color with a metallic sheen and ends in a long dark tip.
