About Carex nigromarginata Schwein.
Carex nigromarginata Schwein., commonly called black edge sedge, is a North American species of sedge. It grows on acid soils in dry woodland, thickets, roadsides, and other similar ruderal habitats, growing in both partial shade and full sun. It often occurs near streams, at elevations ranging from 10 to 800 meters (33 to 2,625 feet). This species grows in dense clumps, and frequently forms circular patterns across forest floors and roadsides. Its chromosome count is 2n = 36. Its range extends from Ontario west to Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas, south from Mississippi to South Carolina, and northeast to Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.
