This species of sedge, scientifically named Carex lenticularis Michx., grows in clumps of slender, greenish yellow, angled stems. Its inflorescence holds erect spikes, with a long bract that is longer than the spikes. The fruit of Carex lenticularis is covered by a green perigynium that sometimes has purple dots; this perigynium sits beneath a brown or black flower scale.
