About Carex laevivaginata (Kük.) Mack.
This species is Carex laevivaginata (Kük.) Mack., a member of the genus Carex, which is commonly known as the sedges. According to the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, Carex is one of the largest genera of flowering plants, holding over 2000 species. In May 2015, the Global Carex Group proposed a broader circumscription of the genus Carex. This expanded circumscription added all species that were formerly classified in four other genera: Cymophyllus, which contained 1 species, Kobresia, which contained approximately 60 species, Schoenoxiphium, which contained approximately 15 species, and Uncinia, which contained approximately 70 species. As of May 2024, the full list of all currently recognized species in the genus Carex, including hybrid species, is organized alphabetically below.
