About Carex L.

Carex lurida is a clump-forming sedge species in the genus Carex L. It produces a tuft of basal leaves, with culms that grow up to 90 cm tall. Its leaves are bright yellow-green, and reach roughly half the length of the stem. The inflorescence is made up of large, brush-shaped lime green spikes that turn golden brown when they ripen. It has a rhizomatous root system with fibrous roots. Carex lurida is a wetland plant that favors marshy growing conditions including sedge meadows, swamps, and ditches. Its native range extends from Eastern Canada to Ecuador, and it has been introduced to New Zealand.
