About Carex hirtifolia Mack.
Carex hirtifolia Mack. produces plants that are shortly rhizomatous and grow in loose tufts. In cross-section, the leaves of this species are shaped like the letter M, and reach at most 8 millimetres (0.3 in) in width. Its inflorescences are made up of 2 to 5 spikes: the terminal spike is staminate (male), while the remaining spikes are pistillate (female). All spikes grow on stalks that are less than 10 mm (0.4 in) long. The utricles of Carex hirtifolia are less than 10 mm (0.39 in) long, and have a beak measuring 0.7โ1.5 mm (0.03โ0.06 in) in length.
