About Carex hendersonii L.H.Bailey
This sedge, Carex hendersonii L.H.Bailey, produces densely tufted, brownish culms that measure 45 to 87 cm (18 to 34 in) long and 2 to 2.2 mm (0.079 to 0.087 in) wide. Its green leaves have basal green sheaths that grow lighter in color closer to the base. The corrugated leaf blades are ascending, with a length of 19 to 52 cm (7.5 to 20.5 in) and a width of 3 to 16 mm (0.12 to 0.63 in). Its inflorescences develop as spikes at the ends of lateral stalks, and these spikes range from 1 to 15 cm (0.39 to 5.91 in) in length. In California, this species blooms between May and June. This plant grows in temperate biomes. Its native range extends from southwestern Canada's British Columbia, south through western Washington and Oregon in the United States, reaching as far south as California. It occurs equally often in wetland and non-wetland environments, including coastal prairie and oak woodlands.
