About Carex festucacea Willd.

Scientific name: Carex festucacea Willd.

Carex festucacea, commonly known as fescue sedge, is a species of sedge native to eastern North America. It has been described as a soft, gray-green wisp that reaches up to 2 feet in height. It bears narrow leaves, and its stems are somewhat taller than its leaves. Stems are topped by an interrupted spike, with lower spikelets that are shaped somewhat like an overflowing ice cream cone. The spike axis is often arched at the summit, and the alternating arrangement of spikelets around the axis creates a zig zag appearance. The seed sacs of this species have a humped shoulder.
