Carex cherokeensis, with the scientific name Carex cherokeensis Schwein., is commonly known as Cherokee sedge. It is a species of flowering plant belonging to the sedge family, Cyperaceae. This species is native to the United States, occurring in the Southeast region of the country. Its natural habitat occurs in areas with high-nutrient, often calcareous soil, growing in bottomland forests, mesic forests, and wet meadows. Carex cherokeensis is a rhizomatous perennial graminoid. It produces drooping spikes that are 8 to 9 mm thick. The beaks of its perigynia are papery and fragile. It produces fruit in late spring and early summer.
