Carex caryophyllea Latourr. is a plant species belonging to the family Cyperaceae. It was first described by Marc Antoine Louis Claret de La Tourrette. The World Checklist of Selected Plant Families recognizes two accepted varieties of this species: Carex caryophyllea var. caryophyllea, which is native to temperate regions of the Old World, and Carex caryophyllea var. microtricha (Franch.) Kük., which is found in the Far East, Korea, and North and Central Japan.
