Carex adusta Boott is a densely tuft-forming, perennial, rhizomatous, grass-like plant that reaches a maximum height of 32 inches. Its leaves are simple, alternate, and linear in shape. This species produces densely clustered culms that grow 2.5–8 cm (1.0–3.1 in) tall, while its leaves measure 7–25 cm (2.8–9.8 in) long by 2–3.5 mm wide. Its inflorescence holds up to 15 spikes clustered together, and it produces an obovate to elliptic achene as fruit. This species is distributed in Canada and the northeastern United States. It grows in dry, acidic, sandy soils, and can be found in woodlands, road beds, and disturbed sites.
