About Carex acuta L.
Carex acuta L. is a slender, tuft-forming, rhizomatous plant that reaches a maximum height of 90 cm. It has narrow, flat leaves and three-angled stems. Its inflorescence takes the form of a spike, with brown flowers that bloom in late spring and summer. This species grows on river and lake margins within the Palaearctic terrestrial ecoregions. It occupies beds in wet, alkaline or slightly acid depressions with mineral soil. Carex acuta cannot tolerate prolonged desiccation. Its documented specific distribution includes northern France, the Low Countries, and Central Europe, extending south to the Sava and Drava valleys of Croatia, the northern Morava valley of Serbia, and Romania, and north to Poland, the Kaliningrad District, Lithuania, and Latvia. It is also found in southern Scandinavia, the Dnieper basin of northern Ukraine and southern Belarus, and the lower Volga Valley.
