About Cardamine pentaphyllos (L.) Crantz

Cardamine pentaphyllos, commonly known as five-leaflet bitter-cress or showy toothwort, is a flowering plant in the family Brassicaceae. It is native to Western and Central Europe, specifically found in Slovenia and Croatia. This species is an herbaceous perennial that grows between 30 and 50 cm (12 to 20 inches) tall. It produces palmate leaves, and bears racemes of purple, pink or white flowers during late spring and early summer. The Latin specific epithet pentaphyllos translates to "with five-lobed leaves". A feminine variant form, pentaphylla, is sometimes encountered for this species, but this usage is considered incorrect. Cardamine pentaphyllos has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
