Carabus sylvestris Panzer, 1793 is a species of ground beetle that belongs to the Carabinae subfamily. Individuals of this species are either black or brown in colour. It can be found in Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Liechtenstein, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine, and the Netherlands. Four recognized subspecies of Carabus sylvestris are: Carabus sylvestris haberfelneri, Carabus sylvestris kolbi, Carabus sylvestris redtenbacheri, and Carabus sylvestris sylvestris.
