About Carabus maeander Fischer von Waldheim, 1820

Carabus maeander, commonly called the menderes worm and slug hunter, is a species of beetle that belongs to the family Carabidae. Adult individuals of this species are black in color, and measure between 15 and 23.5 millimetres (0.59 to 0.93 inches) in length. Flying activity of the species occurs during May and June. This beetle can be found in the northeastern United States, as well as in central and southern Canada, including the province of Alberta. It also occurs outside of North America. In Russia, Carabus maeander is found in eastern Siberia. In Japan, it is known to occur on the islands of Hokkaido and Kunashir. The species is also present in South Korea.
