Carabus goryi, commonly called Gory's worm and slug hunter, is a species of ground beetle that belongs to the family Carabidae. This species is found in North America, with confirmed occurrences in Ontario, Alabama, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. It inhabits cool moist forests, orchards, and cultivated fields. Adult Carabus goryi are brachypterous, gregarious, and nocturnal. Adults prey on the larvae of Lymantria dispar and a variety of soft-bodied insect larvae.
