About Capparis arborea (F.Muell.) Maiden

Capparis arborea (F.Muell.) Maiden can grow up to 8 metres tall, with a stem diameter of up to 25 cm, though most individual plants are much smaller. Its trunk is crooked, short, and irregular in shape. Young plants produce many sharp prickles. Older trees have grey bark and spines that are less sharp. The small branches of this plant are fairly thick and dark grey, with green coloration at their tips. Leaves grow alternately along the stem; they are simple, and shaped oblong-lanceolate or sometimes oblong-ovate. Adult leaves measure 5 to 10 cm long and 1.5 to 5 cm wide. Most leaves have a rounded tip, while some have a pointed tip. Juvenile leaves are smaller than adult leaves, and have a prickly pointed tip. Leaf veins are visible on both the upper and lower leaf surfaces. The midrib is raised on the underside of the leaf, and sunken on the upper surface.
