About Canararctia rufescens (Brulle, 1836)

Canararctia is a monotypic tiger moth genus in the family Erebidae. This genus was erected by Vladimir Viktorovitch Dubatolov in 1990. Its only species is Canararctia rufescens, which was first described by Gaspard Auguste Brullé in 1836. This species is endemic to La Gomera and Tenerife in the Canary Islands. It has a wingspan of 48–66 millimetres, equal to 1.9–2.6 inches. Adult moths of this species fly throughout the entire year. Its larvae feed on a variety of plants, including Myrica faya, Rumex lunaria, Kleinia neriifolia, Ricinus communis, Nicotiana glauca, and Sonchus congestus.
