About Camponotus niveosetosus Mayr, 1862

This species is dark grey to black in color. A distinguishing feature is the abundant, stiff, nearly snow-white hairs covering its thorax and gaster. Its antennae and tarsi are ferruginous, and its mandibles are dark castaneous red. Along with this thick, blunt white pilosity, the body is also covered in a layer of shorter, finer, more yellowish decumbent pubescence. This species ranges across an area from Kenya to South Africa, where it occurs in a wide variety of habitats, only avoiding arid regions. Habitats it is found in include gardens, fynbos, grassland, savanna, and multiple types of woodland. Its range extends from the intertidal zone at sea level up to middle altitudes.
