Camponotus modoc, common name western carpenter ant, is a species of black carpenter ant with dark red legs. Worker ants of this species range in size from 7 to 13 mm, which is 0.28 to 0.51 inches. This ant is found in Western North America. It builds its nests in dead wood, including dead logs in forests, and also nests inside human houses.
