About Camissoniopsis hirtella (Greene) W.L.Wagner & Hoch
Camissoniopsis hirtella is a species of evening primrose, commonly called Santa Cruz Island suncup. It is native to California and Baja California, growing on the slopes of coastal and inland hills and mountains, particularly in areas that have recently burned. This plant is an annual herb that produces a hairy stem, reaching up to approximately half a meter in height. Most of its leaves grow in a basal rosette at ground level; these leaves are oval-shaped and measure a few centimeters in length. Its nodding inflorescence bears flowers with sepals covered in long glandular hairs, and bright yellow petals that are each less than one centimeter long. The petals sometimes have red dots at their bases. The fruit of Camissoniopsis hirtella is a coiling capsule that can grow up to 2 centimeters long.
