About Calycadenia truncata DC.
Calycadenia truncata DC. is a species of flowering plant in the daisy family Asteraceae, commonly known by the common name Oregon western rosinweed. This annual herb is native to western North America, specifically to southwestern Oregon and northern and central California. It can be found in the Cascades, the Coast Ranges, and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, ranging as far south as California's Monterey and Tulare Counties, where it grows best on dry, sunny grassy slopes. The plant produces an erect, reddish stem that can reach up to 120 centimetres (47 inches) in height. Its leaves are linear, meaning they are long and very narrow, and grow up to 10 cm (4 in) long. It blooms from June to October. Its inflorescence holds one or more flower heads, each about 2.5 cm (1 in) wide, at separate nodes. The flower heads are surrounded by short bracts tipped with resin glands. The hairy flower heads have a center made up of many disc florets with purple tips, and also have a small number of yellow ray florets that measure 6–13 millimetres (1⁄4–1⁄2 in) in length. The fruit produced by the plant is an achene.
